Are you dreaming of a holiday that offers more than just stunning beaches and picturesque sunsets? At Waterside Holiday Group, we believe that your next escape to Weymouth or Cornwall can be full of unforgettable experiences and hidden gems that make your stay truly special. From immersive historical tours to exciting wildlife encounters, Weymouth and Cornwall have something for everyone.

To spare you the trouble, we’ve curated a bespoke list of unique things to do near our Waterside parks which we think you’ll find yourself still thinking about months after you get home from your holiday.

Weymouth: A Coastal Town Full of Surprises

    Sandworld’s Sculptures

Weymouth is famous for its beach, but it is also home to incredible sand art at the UK’s only Sand Sculpture Festival, crafted by some of the world’s best sand sculptors. From works inspired by characters from film & TV to creatures celebrating our Jurassic Coast, you are guaranteed to be in awe of the talent. Each year brings new displays by internationally renowned sculptors, and you can even get involved yourself in their daily workshops to create your own sandy masterpiece.

    Portland Quarry and Sculpture Park

For those who love a mix of nature and history, a trip to the Portland Quarries and Sculpture Park offers stunning scenery and a glimpse into the area’s industrial past. Wander through the quarry landscapes, where the famous Portland stone has been quarried since the Roman era. The stone has been used to build a variety of buildings, the first one being Rufus Castle at Church Ope Cove on Portland which you can visit once you’re done exploring the quarry. Other notable buildings built using Portland Stone include the Palace of Westminster, the Tower of London, and part of the east side of Buckingham Palace. The rugged beauty of the quarries is a fantastic spot for exploration and photography and the stone’s notoriety in construction definitely makes it well worth a visit. The Isle of Portland, where the quarry is situated, is connected by a causeway so is just a short drive from any of our Weymouth parks.

    Nothe Fort Haunted Tunnels

History buffs and thrill-seekers alike will enjoy a visit to the Nothe Fort, one of Weymouth’s most historic sites. Beneath its thick stone walls lie eerie tunnels said to be haunted by ghosts of the past. Take a chilling tour and discover the spooky legends of soldiers and sailors who never left the grounds.

    Seaweed Pressing at Lyme Regis

Just a short trip from Weymouth, Lyme Regis offers a fun and creative coastal activity – seaweed pressing at Molesworth & Bird. This unique art form lets you forage along the beach for seaweed, which you can then turn into beautiful pressed artworks. It’s a relaxing and surprisingly addictive craft, perfect for connecting with nature and creating a special holiday keepsake. You can also purchase pressed seaweed products such as art prints, books, mugs, tablecloths and more.

    Kayak Along Old Harry Rocks

For adventurers, kayaking around Old Harry Rocks is a must. Located along the Jurassic Coast, these iconic chalk formations are best explored by water. Join a guided tour, open session or private, to paddle through sea arches, into hidden coves, and past towering cliffs. It’s a blissful way to soak in the natural beauty of the Jurassic coastline whilst also getting that much desired adrenaline rush!

    Cornwall: Where Adventure Meets History

    Ghost Walk Through Looe

If you love a good ghost story, you won’t want to miss a spooky night out in Looe. Join a guided ghost walk through this ancient fishing village, where you’ll hear tales of smugglers, shipwrecks, and wandering spirits. The narrow, cobbled streets of Looe are the perfect setting for eerie stories that will send shivers down your spine!

Explore the Smuggling Tunnels of Polperro

Cornwall’s rich smuggling history comes to life in the village of Polperro, just a 20 minute drive from Tregoad Holiday Park. Here you can explore secret tunnels used by smugglers to move contraband undetected. Wander through these hidden passages, once the haunt of daring pirates and rogues, and imagine the perilous adventures of Cornwall’s smuggling past. It’s a journey back in time that’s as thrilling as it is educational.

Memorable Activities at Tregoad Holiday Park

Your trip to Tregoad Holiday Park isn’t just about exploring Cornwall’s stunning coastlines – there are plenty of exciting activities to enjoy right here on the park! For families, our Forest Rangers experience is a fantastic way to connect with nature. Over two hours, children (and adults!) can learn essential outdoor skills like lighting fires, toasting marshmallows, and discovering the wildlife around Tregoad Lakes.

For nature enthusiasts, try the Tregoad Wildlife Challenge. Grab your record sheet and set off to see how many different wildlife species you can spot around the park’s lakes and nature trails. It’s a great way to explore the natural beauty of Tregoad at your own pace.

For an unforgettable evening, join our Night Walk to spot bats and foxes. With bat detectors and night vision goggles, you’ll get to listen out for the bats and watch them swoop overhead.

And for the rest of the 2024 season, activities are half price! Now is the time to explore those new activities and make some cherished memories with your loved ones.

    Looe Valley Line by Train

For a peaceful, scenic adventure, hop aboard the Looe Valley Line. This quaint train journey offers stunning views as it winds through the Cornish countryside, following the East Looe River. Sit back and relax as you pass through charming villages, lush valleys and old mining landscapes. For the bird watchers, this will be a particularly exciting journey as you’ll be able to spot multiple wading birds such as Little Egrets, Grey Herons and Oystercatchers. The perfect way to take in Cornwall’s beauty at a leisurely pace.

    Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Looe and Millendreath’s waters are ideal for stand-up paddleboarding, and if you’re lucky you might even share the gentle waves with some friendly seals! Whether you’re by yourself or in a group, there’s paddleboards for everyone to get on and enjoy to learn a new skill and create a memory to last a lifetime.
