A Family Legacy

Where It Began

In 1963, our grandparents, Ralph and Esther Jacobs, bought Bowleaze Holiday Park (then known as Waterside), after running shops on various parks in Weymouth and Looe. Today, their park is the front section of Bowleaze Cove Holiday Park. Over the next 20 years, they improved and ran the park, and we have many happy childhood memories of exploring this fantastic playground.

In 1986, Ralph and Esther’s son, our father, Philip, took over Waterside and, within a few months, merged it with what now makes up most of the back section of the park. Over the next thirty years he carried out improvements to the park with the aim of making sure that it offered real excellence to its customers. He also added Chesil Beach and Osmington Mills, both with stunning views, into the family.

Sadly, Philip passed away in 2015 and ownership passed to his wife, Judith, and his daughters: Claire, Miranda and Olivia. Like Philip, we quickly became very excited by the potential of the Waterside parks and continued his legacy, always looking for ways to improve what we offered our owners and holidaymakers. One of the first improvements was the Southside seafront area which quickly became a firm favourite for our team and customers alike. In 2021, we found Tregoad, a park with incredible views and gorgeous lakes, perched above Looe in Cornwall, just minutes from our grandparents’ old shop. Again, we set about developing it into 5* luxury.

We wanted to remember and celebrate the wonderful work and lives of Ralph, Esther and Philip with something that represented both their strength and their ability to balance warmth, kindness, imagination, humour and love.

This really is a beautifully kept park set in a lovely location with views across the hills and out to sea. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and there's such attention to detail, from the very well kept landscaping to little things like the doggy welcome pack in the caravan.

Stories From Our Guests

The caravans were clean and the site well kept. The swimming pool was great and both my girls enjoyed it. The soft play and amusements were great too. The entertainment was decent. We have booked for their sister site, Bowleaze for next year, looking forward to that. I would recommend.
