There's an abundance of beautiful beaches all across the Weymouth coastline that make for great days out for families and individuals going on holiday with dogs.

Weymouth Beach

Weymouth Beach in Dorset is known for its safe shallow waters and gorgeous golden sand. It's a popular spot for families and the eastern end of the beach is a great spot for water sports.

Beach type: Sandy

Facilities: Toilets, cafes, restaurants, shops, deckchair hire

Restrictions: Dogs are allowed between September - April.

Abbotsbury Beach

Abbotsbury Beach is a section of the larger Chesil Beach and is popular for fishing and coastal walks. It's a pebble and shingle beach that's known for its strong currents and undertow, making swimming in this location dangerous and not advised.

Facilities: Toilets, cafe, gift shop

Restrictions: Dogs are allowed on leads all year round.

Bowleaze Cove

Bowleaze Cove offers spectacular views of Weymouth Bay and Portland and the grassy cliff-top area provides a scenic location for days out, picnics, dog walks and more. 

Distance from Weymouth: 10-minute drive

Beach type: Pebble

Facilities: Toilets, cafes, shops, pubs, arcade

Restrictions: Dogs welcome all year, off lead.

Durdle Door

Durdle Door is a natural arch along the Jurassic Coast which has risen is popularity due its natural beauty and rural nature. Lacking many urban elements like shops, kiosks, pop-ups, buildings, and other coastal eye-sores. 

Distance from Weymouth: 30-minute drive

Beach type: Pebble and shingle

Facilities: The car park includes a toilet and light refreshments

Restrictions: Dogs are welcome all year round.

Lulworth Cove

Lulworth Cove is a beautiful horseshoe-shaped cove that's known for its unique geology and landforms. The beach has stunning clear blue waters and rock pools, making it an ideal spot for swimming and days out with the family

Beach type: Pebble

Facilities: Toilets, refreshments, visitor centre 

Restrictions: Dogs are allowed on the beach all year to the left-hand side of the slipway.

Church Ope Cove

Church Ope Cove is a secluded beach in Portland and offers views of Rufus Castle and the nearby ruins of old St Andrew’s Church. It's also a popular spot for snorkelling and swimming even though the currents can be strong and dangerous further out from the coastline.

Ringstead Bay

Ringstead Bay is a quiet area boasting clear waters, farmlands and clifftops to explore and discover. It's perfect for a coastal walk or hike, picnic and swim, or day out with the family

Facilities: Toilets, cafe, kiosk

Restrictions: Dogs are welcome all year.

Osmington Mills Beach

Osmington Mills Beach is a coastal hamlet which offers spectacular views across Weymouth and is a popular destination for coastal walks and hikes but is not recommended for swimming due to its rocky shore and wild waves.

Facilities: Toilets, local heritage pub (The Smuggler's Inn)

Restrictions: Dogs are welcome all year.

Hive Beach is a beautiful stretch of coastline that features breathtaking sandstone cliffs and miles of quiet and unspoilt beaches. This destination is perfect for people wanting to explore the dramatic environment or have a peaceful day out.

Restrictions: Dogs are allowed but should be kept on a lead between 1 March and 31 July.
