The Best Cocktail Bars in Cornwall

Cornwall’s food and drink scene has grown into a destination in its own right, with independent bars, restaurants, distilleries and beachside venues making the most of the county’s stunning surroundings and fantastic local produce.

Looking for a classic cocktail? A locally distilled gin? A sunset drink by the sea? Or somewhere to enjoy cocktails alongside dinner? There’s something to suit every occasion. 

For guests staying at our Cornwall holiday park, Looe and the surrounding area are particularly well placed for a cocktail-filled evening. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite spots near Tregoad Holiday Park, as well as a few options worth visiting if you’re exploring further afield. 

Before heading out, always check individual venues for the latest opening times, menus and booking requirements, as these can change seasonally. 

There’s more to a great cocktail bar than simply having a long drinks menu. When putting together this guide, we’ve looked for venues offering something a little different, from Cornish spirits and locally sourced ingredients to beautiful coastal settings and memorable atmospheres.

If your ideal evening involves cocktails, sharing plates and a lively atmosphere, Bewshea’s by the Beach is a great option just along the coast from Looe. 

Located on the main road in Downderry, this independent tapas restaurant opened in 2023 and has built a reputation for its vibrant, friendly atmosphere. The menu combines sharing plates with fine wines and cocktails, making it a good choice when you want your drinks to be part of the whole evening rather than an afterthought. 

Cocktail fans are particularly well catered for, with more than 20 cocktails available. There’s also an all-day offer of 2 cocktails for £16 or 2 for £17, depending on the drinks selected.*

The outdoor deck is another highlight, providing a lovely spot for an afternoon or early-evening drink. Bewshea’s also regularly hosts live music, with summer events including DJs and live performers. 

It’s a particularly good option if you’re travelling with your four-legged friend, as dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome. The restaurant is also family-friendly, has highchairs available and caters for dietary requirements.

Hidden behind The Golden Guinea in the heart of East Looe, the GG Garden Bar is a lovely little escape from the hustle and bustle of the town. 

The garden bar opened in 2020 and offers an outdoor setting overlooking the rooftops of East Looe and the town’s famous Guildhall Clock Tower. It’s a particularly good choice on a summer afternoon when you can settle in with a cocktail and enjoy the atmosphere.

The cocktail menu includes favourites such as Pornstar Martinis, while gin lovers are well catered for with a selection that includes locally distilled gin from just around the corner. 

During the summer, the garden also hosts live music and DJ sets, making it a good choice if you’re looking for somewhere with a little more entertainment alongside your drinks. 

Food is available during the restaurant’s opening hours, making this a versatile option for groups and families as well as couples.

For a cocktail paired with a relaxed dinner, JUJU’s is a great choice in the centre of Looe. 

This cosy tapas restaurant on Higher Market Street specialises in small plates designed for sharing, alongside a carefully selected wine list and a cocktail menu created to complement the bold flavours of the food. 

The intimate setting makes JUJU’s particularly suited to a date night or a relaxed evening with friends. Recent visitors have highlighted the friendly atmosphere and cocktails including Margaritas, while Sangria is also recommended by diners. 

The restaurant is relatively small, so booking ahead is recommended, particularly during busy periods and school holidays. It’s also dog-friendly, although the venue’s compact nature means it’s sensible to check when booking if you're bringing a larger dog.

If you’re after somewhere a little more casual, Botel offers something different. This bottle shop and bar sits right on The Quay in East Looe and combines a cosy indoor bar with all-weather outdoor seating.

The name comes from the Cornish word for bottle, and the venue has a strong focus on artisan drinks, including craft ales, wines and spirits from independent producers. You can enjoy your drink in the bar or outdoor seating area, or pick up a bottle to take home. 

It’s less of a traditional cocktail destination and more of a relaxed drinks stop, making it a good option for an afternoon wander around Looe. Bar snacks, freshly ground coffee and hot drinks are also available.

Dogs are welcome in the all-weather outdoor seating area. Due to limited space, Botel doesn’t accept prams, pushchairs, or beach trolleys, and under-18s aren’t permitted after 5pm. 

Opening times can change seasonally, so check Botel’s social channels before making a special trip.

If you want to experience something a little different from a traditional cocktail bar, Copperfish Distillery is well worth a visit. What makes it unique is that many of the spirits behind the bar are made right here in Looe, at the working distillery on the harbour-side site.

From fermentation and distillation through to ageing and bottling, Copperfish produces its spirits in Looe. Many of the house cocktails are built around its own Looe Gin, Cornish rum and Kerbon®, (Copperfish’s Cornish whiskey), giving the drinks a genuine taste of the local area.

The professional bartenders make cocktails from scratch, using fresh fruit ingredients from Quay Fresh, also on Looe quayside, fruit preparations made in-house and local or seasonal fruit wherever possible. They even have their own forager, Simon, who supplies wild Cornish native fruit such as Kea Plums. You can enjoy your drink on the outside terrace overlooking Looe Harbour, just a few metres from where the spirits in your glass were created.

There’s more than cocktails on offer, too. Wines are selected by award-winning Cornish wine merchant Ellis Wharton Wines, while Cornish sharing boards bring together local cheeses and authentic Spanish charcuterie. Every Sunday at 4:30pm from May to September, the terrace also hosts Sunday Sessions, with live performances from up-and-coming Cornish artists.

For anyone who wants to get closer to the distilling process, Copperfish also runs small-group gin and spirits tours. The 90-minute experience, limited to six people, begins with an introduction in the Mash & Brewhouse before taking you on a guided tour of the working distillery and its copper still. You’ll then enjoy a tutored spirits tasting followed by a complimentary drink, with tour guests also receiving 10% off bottles to take home. For cocktails with a view, it’s hard to beat the setting at Sip n Slice. 

Located right beside Millendreath Beach, this relatively new cocktail and wood-fired pizza bar opened in 2025 and makes the most of its beachfront position with wraparound decking overlooking the bay.

It’s an easy choice for a relaxed holiday evening - order a cocktail, choose a pizza and settle in to watch the light change over the coast. The setting is particularly appealing around sunset, when the views across the bay really come into their own. 

Sip n Slice is open from noon until late, Wednesday to Sunday, although seasonal opening times can change.*

One of the best things about enjoying a cocktail in Cornwall is discovering just how much of the drink can come from the county itself. 

Cornwall is home to a growing collection of independent distilleries producing gin, rum, vodka and other spirits. Local botanicals, berries, herbs and other ingredients can bring a distinctly Cornish character to familiar favourites, whether that’s a refreshing G&T, a fruity sour or a classic rum cocktail. 

Looe is particularly exciting for spirit lovers, with Copperfish Distillery producing its spirits right on the harbour. Its range includes Cornish Dry Gin, Spiced Rum and Kerbon®, while locally inspired botanicals and ingredients are used throughout its small-batch production.

A little forward planning can make your evening much easier, particularly if you’re visiting Cornwall during the summer holidays.

Opening times can change depending on the season, with some coastal and garden bars operating reduced hours outside the main holiday period. Before setting off, check the venue’s current opening times and whether you need to book. 

It’s also worth checking:

- Last orders

- Whether the venue takes bookings

- Whether food is available

- Dress codes

- Age restrictions

- Accessibility

- Dog policies

- Outdoor seating

- Alcohol-free and soft drink options

For the smaller venues, booking ahead is particularly sensible during school holidays and summer weekends. 

And if you’re planning on enjoying a few cocktails, think about your journey home before you head out. For rural and coastal venues, arranging a taxi in advance can be a good idea, particularly during busy periods when local taxi availability can be limited. 

If you’d rather leave the car behind altogether, Cornwall’s bus or rail network can also open up some great days out. Looe, Millendreath, and the surrounding areas can all be incorporated into car-free adventures, although you’ll want to check your return journey times before settling in for that final cocktail!
