A Slower Christmas in Cornwall: Your Cosy Winter Escape at Tregoad

So this year, why not do Christmas differently?

Swap the rush for long walks. The crowded diary for slow mornings. The endless list of things to do for a few days where there’s nowhere you need to be. 

For the first time ever, Tregoad Holiday Park is staying open right through November, December, including the Christmas period, until 3 January 2027. Nestled in the Cornish countryside just outside Looe, it makes a peaceful base for a winter escape. Somewhere to come back to after exploring the coast, wandering through festive markets or simply spending the day doing absolutely nothing. 

Because sometimes, the best Christmas memories are the quiet ones. 

Winter in Cornwall has a different kind of magic. 

The beaches are quieter, the countryside feels still. The roads are calmer, the skies feel bigger and there’s something rather lovely about wrapping up warm and heading out into the fresh Cornish air.

And when you’ve had enough of the cold? Tregoad is waiting. 

Make a cup of tea. Put your feet up. Cook something comforting. Get everyone together around the table. Let the children play while you settle in with a book. Or simply enjoy the luxury of having nowhere else to be. 

With cosy cottages and the beautiful Manor House, which sleeps up to 18 guests, Tregoad gives families and groups plenty of space to slow down together. 

It’s a different kind of Cornish holiday. Less cramming every day full and more about making room for the things you don’t always have time for at home. 

If you’re visiting in November, you can still enjoy a little taste of Tregoad’s usual facilities. 

Throughout the month, The Barn remains open for swims and sauna sessions, giving you somewhere warm and relaxing to retreat to after a day exploring Cornwall. 

And at weekends, Stargazy Bar & Grill will also be welcoming guests, so you can leave the cooking behind for an evening and settle in for something delicious, right on park. 

It’s the best of both worlds: days spent discovering winter in Cornwall, with a little bit of Tregoad comfort waiting when you get back. 

From December onwards, Tregoad becomes even quieter. 

The pool and restaurant close for the winter, leaving our cottages and Manor House available for accommodation-only, self-catering stays. 

And honestly? That’s rather the point. 

Without a schedule of activities or somewhere you need to rush off to, there’s space to create your own rhythm. 

Wake up slowly. Head out for a frosty morning walk. Come back for a lazy breakfast. Explore Looe in the afternoon. Put the fire on, if your accommodation has one, and settle in for an evening of board games, films and food. 

Christmas doesn’t have to mean doing more. 

Perhaps this year, it could mean doing less, together. 

Tregoad sits among the Cornish countryside, just a couple of miles from Looe, making it an ideal base for getting out and exploring. 

Wrap up in your warmest layers and head for the coast. Wander through Looe, follow a section of the South West Coast Path or take a bracing stroll before coming back to the warmth of your cottage. 

There’s something wonderfully grounding about a winter walk. Cold cheeks, muddy boots, salty air and the promise of a hot drink when you get back. 

And if the weather isn’t playing ball?

That’s your excuse to stay in.

Sometimes a rainy afternoon spent playing cards, cooking together and watching Christmas films without worrying about anything at home is exactly what a holiday should be. 

Staying at Tregoad doesn’t mean disappearing from the festivities altogether. Cornwall comes alive with Christmas markets, lights, family events and seasonal celebrations throughout November and December.

Get festive at the Eden Project

The Eden Project is one of Cornwall’s biggest winter attractions, and Christmas 2026 brings sparkling lights, ice skating, Father Christmas experiences, festive food and more on selected dates from 20 November to 2 January. 

The Cornwall Christmas Fair takes place at Eden on 18 and 19 November, with independent stalls, Cornish food, gifts and festive treats - ideal if you’re getting ahead with your Christmas shopping. 

Then, as darkness falls, the Biomes are transformed with the Eden Christmas Lights experience. 

It’s the sort of day that feels wonderfully festive, before heading back to Tregoad for a much quieter evening.

See Looe light up

For something closer to home, head into Looe for the Lantern Parade and Christmas Lights Switch-On on 27 November. 

Lanterns make their way through the town before the Christmas lights are switched on, followed by live music and fireworks. 

You can also explore Looe’s festive window displays and hunt for the town’s hidden elves once the Christmas celebrations get underway. 

It’s a lovely way to experience a little Cornish community spirit before retreating to the countryside.

Wander through Polperro at Christmas

Just along the coast, Polperro takes on an extra sprinkle of magic in December. 

On 5 December, the village’s Christmas celebrations bring together festive lights, local stalls, mulled wine stalls, community performances, a lantern trail and an appearance from Father Christmas. 

Come for the lights and stay for a wander around the harbour, before heading back to Tregoad for a cosy evening.

Go market-hopping

If Christmas is part of your winter escape, there are plenty of opportunities to find something a little different. 

From Healeys Christmas Market, running on weekends from November into December, to festive markets in Truro, Padstow and Liskeard, you can spend a morning browsing independent makers before heading somewhere cosy for lunch. 

And if you’re happy to venture a little further, Plymouth’s Christmas Market brings festive stalls, food and seasonal atmosphere to the city from late November through December. 

Pick a market. Have a wander. Find a good coffee. Buy something you like. Then go back to Tregoad.

Follow the festive farm trail with actor-elves, visit Santa’s Stables, make reindeer food, toast marshmallows and enjoy a live festive magic show before meeting Father Christmas. Afterwards, explore Christmas Street, complete with an interactive Post Office, Elves’ Toy Workshop, Sweet Shop and miniature train station, before finishing with a tractor-drawn Santa’s sleigh ride back to the farm shop.

The beauty of a winter stay at Tregoad is that you don’t need to plan every minute.
